Moby’s spent most of his time since the genre defining album Play in the musical wilderness. It’s anyone’s guess where it all went wrong, but Wait For Me shows there might be life in the old dog yet.
About Chris Marling
Of Montreal – Skeletal Lamping
Of Monreal have had their moments, most notably with last album Hissing Fauna…, but Skeletal Lamping isn’t one of them. Chris Marling suffers a Queen and Bowie inspire disco overload.
Plus/Minus – Xs on Your Eyes
Chris Marling can’t quite put his finger on WHY this is such a great album, all he knows is that it IS a great album.
The Chap – Builders Brew
‘Builders Brew’ is the second long-player from electro pop weirdies The Chap in just six months; a mini album of singles, remixes and other layabouts that doesn’t quite live up to expectations.
Manda Rin – My DNA
Chris Marling liked Bis… but don’t hold it against him. The solo album from once Bis frontwoman Manda Rin isn’t quite as good though…
Rodriguez – Cold Fact
Chris Marling gets transported back to the 70′s with the release of an album by one of the great, lost legends of music; Rodriguez.
Various artists – ID08 Independents Day
In theory, this is a great idea. Get a bunch of known alternative bands to do a cover version for CD1, then get them (and some record labels) to recommend a bunch of ‘new’ bands, and fill CD2 with songs by said recommendations. In theory.
Levellers – Letters from the Underground
Back in the days of crusties and kitbags, one band emerged to dent the chart and headline festivals worldwide. The Levellers formula was simple; fiddles and didgeridoo added to a politically fuelled and punk-inspired pop band. They lost their way for quite some time, but now they’re back with a vengeance.
G.Love & Special Sauce – Superhero Brother
The king of Philly hip-hop stoner blues returns as the Superhero Brother, but seems to have lost his mojo. The Special Sauce are still one of the tightest bands around, but four good songs do not an album make.
The Dandy Warhols – Earth to the Dandy Warhols
Earth to… is the sixth long-player from The Dandy Warhols and the first on their own label. I expect they’d tell you they’ve gone their own way for impenetrably cool and worthy reasons, but in truth they were unceremoniously dropped by Capitol after disappearing up their own arses and, as a whole, this album justifies that call.
Stupids – Reissues
UK punk and hardcore label Boss Tuneage has taken the rather wonderful step of re-releasing practically everything Stupids ever did over six CDs, and for this we should be eternally grateful. If you thought the likes of Snuff were a bit noisy in the early days, think again.
CSS – Donkey
This album was always going to get panned; daft Brazilian indie dance combo CSS have gone and done what both the people who liked them and the people who didn’t could get pissed with – they started taking the whole music thing seriously.
