The slacker thing was tiresome before it even began. Why bother recording anything if you’re going to intentionally sound like you don’t give a shit about it?
How refreshing, then, to hear a band that are taking their cues from the ’90s but doing it with some conviction. California X, who have only been together since November, are more Hot Water Music growl than frayed-denim-short-whimper. ‘Sucker’ is out on The Sounds Of Sweet Nothing on March 12th.
