Oh! Canada and TLOBF are delighted to be returning to the Halifax Pop Explosion this year. Two dozen venues, five days and over 150 bands (including the likes of Stars, Braids, Ohbijou, Fucked Up, The Thermals, Timber Timbre, Twin Shadow and many more). We decided we wanted to get more involved this year, and as a result we are pleased to announce our first Halifax Pop Explosion showcase at The Bus Stop Theatre, Halifax (NS) on Friday October 21st. Free entry with HPX wristbands and $10 without.
Snailhouse: 11.30pm
Snailhouse’s latest album Sentimental Gentleman is hands down one of our favourite albums of the year, and we are delighted to invite its creator Mike Feuerstack to headline our first Halifax Pop Explosion showcase. Over 6 records and 2 EP’s Snailhouse has showcased Feuerstack’s subtle and poignant songwriting skills, and wordplay to break the heart. As he sings on the latest album’s title track ” I write the songs that make the grown men cry”.
The Provincial Archive: 10.30pm
This May saw Edmonton’s The Provincial Archive embark on a special tour for latest album Maybe We Could Be Holy which took in at least 8 shows in Provincial Archives and Museums. Along there way, they caught the audience up in their catchy folk-pop, infused with twinkling electronica.
Giant Hand: 9.30pm
Recently relocated from Ottawa to Toronto, Giant Hand is the project of Kirk Ramsay. The sucess of Ramsay’s debut Coming Home saw him support Daniel Johnston, Handsome Furs, Timber Timbre and The Acorn amongst others. His latest EP Starting as People was released in March and features Rolf Klausener and Pat Johnson of The Acorn
Paper Beat Scissors: 8.30pm
Relocated from the UK to Halifax’s fair shores, Tim Crabtree has toured Canada by train, collaborated with Tanya Davis (and directed her viral video ‘How To Be Alone‘) and received airplay from both CBC and BBC. His forthcoming album has been produced by the nights headliner Mike ‘Snailhouse’ Feuerstack.
Halifax Pop Explosion will be supporting the Parker Street Foodbank at some of their shows, and we will be collecting for the foodbank at the show. We will also have some limited edition prints available, designed by Nick Rhodes of Switchopen. As Ever you will be available to follow us at the festival at @ohcanada_uk
