News reaches us that Wintersleep front-man Paul Murphy is due to release a collection of solo material under the pseudonym Postdata. An entirely stripped back affair, the self-titled album will be released via One Four Seven Records on February 1st 2010. Murphy says of the project: “Mike (Murphy, Paul’s brother) and I both had a little too much time on our hands over Christmas break. Some Scotch too. We decided to get together and over the course of a few weeks, map out and record everything and anything I could remember from months of half formed dreams and thoughts and melodies. Eight months later we reconvened over a free weekend and tried the same thing, reworking a cluster of songs from the first session and adding more, trying to capture the essence of the initial recording. We did it on the same laptop but with a little more preparation this time [ie. we rented actual, real microphones and we used click tracks for a few songs and tuners for the most part, we think] and sure, a little less scotch.

The Postdata album is a touching, heartfelt collection of songs for and about Paul Murphy’s family, particularly his grandparents, their character, his lifelong relationship with them and ultimately their passing.. Stream three tracks from the album below.

News on a European/UK tour throughout January and February 2010 will be announced shortly.
