ohcanada5

So another month rolls by, and Oh! Canada are pleased to bring you another edition of our compilations showcasing the best new Canadian music. This month we celebrate the start of the Ice Hockey season (always a big event in Canada), kicking off with a hockey song from 21 Tandem Repeats. We also bring you tracks from bright new hopes Yukon Blonde, the Japandroids endorsed Makeout Videotape, lo fi-meets-saw charm from Aaron Read and a track from the forthcoming Carolyn Mark and NQ Arbuckle duets album while the Julie Doiron supporting Construction and Destruction make not one but two appearances, contributing guest vocals (and namechecking themselves) on The Burning Hell‘s contribution. To close this month’s compilation we are very pleased to bring you a new track from one of Canada’s biggest acts. In all The Tragically Hip have clocked up 8 Canadian number one albums, and it would be no surprise if the forthcoming We Are The Same achieved the same accolade!

As for Oh! Canada, keep your eyes peeled for an exhaustive track by track from Bruce Peninsula, an introducing piece with Vancouverite Hannah Georgas and keep your eyes peeled for more from The Tragically Hip.

This is an amazing compilation! I’m from Canada and this gave me lots of new discoveries. Canadian music is amazing so I’m glad this comp exists to expose some of our home grown music to the world. It’s one of the industries that gets a lot of support in Canada from Canadians, unlike something like the movie industry, which, like most countries, is dominated by US movies. Some Canadian movies break through, and some are good, but the best ones usually get lost and people don’t seem so eager to get excited about Canadian movies. Music, on the other hand, is something I think Canadians are proud of, proud to say: “Hey, they’re Canadian!”

Beautiful comp! Looking forward to the next one!
