‘Sup bitches?
So earlier in the week we reported on the hugely exciting collaboration between blues titans The Black Keys and a star-studded cast of hip-hop giants: Mos Def, Q-Tip, RZA, Raekwon, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Pharoahe Monch, Ludacris, Jim Jones, Nicole Wray, NOE and Billy Danze (M.O.P).
The resulting album will be released on 30th November in the UK on V2/Cooperative Music following its US release on 27th November (to be dubbed “Blak Friday” by the independent record stores that will sell the album).
Of the album, The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach said “no samples were used on the record, it’s all live instruments and live vocals.”
Sessions began in early summer in Brooklyn with Mos Def’s songs among the first put to tape. Over the following weeks the ten other artists joined the party to play their part in what is unquestionably one of the most forward-thinking and exciting hip hop records of recent years.
We’re lucky enough to be given the following track as a free download. ‘Ain’t Nothing Like You (Hoochie Coo)’ features Mos Def and Jim Jones behind what can only be described as a shit stormer of a drum beat and The Black Keys’ signature swamp blues riffs. If this track is anything to go by, the album may well be the best rock/rap crossover since er… Aerosmith and Run D.M.C.

Just listened to this four times on the trot. It’s ace. A grower.
