One of the UK’s brightest new hopes, Markland Starkie – aka Sleeping States – releases his sophomore album In The Garden’s Of The North on 10th August via Bella Union. The album, his first for East London based independent Bella Union will be preceeded by a limited edition cassette release of album track ‘Gardens Of The South’. What a lovely idea, eh? Cassette tape – a format that matches Starkie’s sound to a tee.
The track ‘Gardens Of The South’ is available to download for free below (along with the cassette artwork) and acts as the perfect introduction to Sleeping States’ world. All hushed tones, layered harmonies and atmospherics. Along with Wild Beasts’ Two Dancers, In The Gardens Of The North could quite easily be the best album to come out of the UK all year.
