Even though it was only late 2007 when Canada’s Young Galaxy released their self-titled debut in the UK (I believe it came out Spring ’07 in the States) it feels like absolutely ages since we last heard from them. Criminally, said album pretty much sunk without any particular attention or applause – over here at least – and the band seemed to *piff* vanish into thin air. We loved the record though, Jude Clarke scoring it a highly respectable 77% in her review, and we even got them to answer our (now defunct, but no less legendary) 20 Questions in which front man Stephen Ramsay gave possibly the best Stoat vs. Goat answer EVER. Not to mention the single ‘Swing Your Heartache’ still being one of my favourite songs from the past few years. So yeah – we kinda like Young Galaxy here at TLOBF.
Good news then that they’re back with a new record. Invisible Republic doesn’t have a release date as yet but the band have made a track available as a free download. ‘Long Live The Fallen World’ on first listen leans towards a more (dare I say it) funky direction. Less shoegaze – more groove. Suits them though, even the 1980′s styled middle 8 breakdown that eventually leads into a spiralling tempo shifting crescendo works.
If you’re in the States you can catch the band previewing tracks from the album on the following dates:
