I can be a bit of an anal sod at times. Especially when it comes to my iTunes collection. Everything has to be tagged correctly; with artwork, genre and track numbers all intact. If I spot something out of place I get all crabby and start to come out in hives. It annoys me – lots. Hands up who’s with me here? Thought as much.
Anyway – a week or two ago I had an email from the chaps over at TuneUp. They’re the creators of a plug-in for iTunes (I’m normally one to shy away from plug-ins, anything that slows your system down is a no go for me) which, considering what it actually does – is a fairly small and memory efficient tool. I’d previously read about it on a few software blogs and the premise sounded pretty interesting: At the click of a button, you can literally take all of your dodgy, un-tagged mp3′s – drag them onto the plug-in window and *ta daaaa* – TuneUp automatically fixes EVERYTHING. Including missing artwork etc.
I’ve been road testing the software for pretty much a week solid now, and have to say – 85-90% of the time, on insertion of a CD – it will not only find the tracks, fix multiple spellings of band names, import hi-res cover art but also inform me of up and coming shows, recent news and even (if I wish) current listings on eBay. All highly intuative stuff. It actually brings a whole new dimension to the iTunes experience. Oh crap. I sound like one of those actors from the new Confused.com advert don’t I? “The new interface makes everything sooooo easy – even for someone as computer illiterate as me”. Fuck off you bastards.
I digress.
For a better explanation and some screen shots, check out the video of TuneUp in action below..
The plug-in is free to download and use. The only downside being that the “free” version only allows 500 song cleanups. So if you’re a messy sod with no respect for your mp3′s – you’re going to be in a bit of trouble. Although, you only have yourselves to blame. There is a gold service available. For a one off payment of $19.95 you can use the service as much as you like. Neato.
Ok – so time for a competition.
We have 3 copies of TuneUp Gold Subscription to give away. With an extra bonus for the 1st prize winner in the shape of a TuneUp t-shirt, badges, stickers and an awesome pair of retro Panasonic RP-HTX7 Headphones (view image).
To be in with a chance of winning, simply email your name, address and t-shirt size to competition@thelineofbestfit.com with the subject header “MY ITUNES IS A MESS. I NEED HELP”. We will then pick 3 winners at random when the competition closes this Friday (6th February).
