Tomorrow (14th February) marks a year since the digital release of Duels‘ second album, The Barbarians Move In. To celebrate this, the band are giving away the whole record FREE via their official website, duelsmusic.co.uk. The site also features a free download of a remix of album track ‘Sleeping Giants’ from fellow Leeds-based artist and the TLOBF approved, Napoleon IIIrd.
What’s more, Duels are able to confirm some very exciting news – Forward, Russia guitarist Whiskas has joined the band full-time. Bassist Jon explains the whole lot below!
“Its a year to the day since we released the album digitally, and throughout the year loads of people have got it touch saying how the album had really struck a chord with them, so we were thinking what we could do to mark the anniversary. We then came up with the amazing and, if I say it myself, quite revolutionary idea of giving away the album for free. Sometimes we really do amaze even ourselves with our out-of-the-box thinking.
For us, it helps close that particular chapter, as we’re now starting to focus on DUELS III. We vowed we’d make another album when Hull Freezes Over, thankfully that happened last week so we’re gonna get in the rehearsal room and get on with.
We haven’t stopped being busy, it’s just been non-Duels stuff. James has produced the Grammatics album, and Jon and I are working on a project with Pete from Heads We Dance, which will hopefully see the light of day.
But as far as Duels is concerned, we’re at what we think is the exciting bit – the beginning of the creative process. We’re delighted that Whiskas has joined the band. He’s always been close to our inner workings, particularly through the making of Barbarians, but beyond anything he’s a fantastic guitarist and it’s gonna be great to see and hear how it all fits together.
We’re gonna try and document the making of III through our website. If we get nothing else out it, we should at least get some great videos of Whiskas and Jim fighting.”
