6Music have had the skinny on the new album from Super Furry Animals. And apparently it’s going to be an all instrumental affair.
“We’ve been working on an instrumental record for almost two years now,” Rhys told BBC 6 Music. “So we’re ploughing ahead with that and we’ve got 24 hours of recorded music.” However, before we’re treated to some opus he added, “It’s a case of editing it and getting it to under an hour, or some palatable size”.
The album is untitled and will be SFA’s first all instrumental album. He also admitted that they were working with the BBC Concert Orchestra on some stuff with a view to working with a larger setup in the future.
“We work instinctively so we like being able to whistle ideas at each other, and by working with a small group of orchestral musicians we can shout ideas at them and whistle stuff as we go on. Then we can arrange the stuff we’ve made by whistling and humming ideas for a larger group of musicians.”
Brilliant – perhaps we’ll see them working with Andrew Bird in the future on some brilliant whistling marvel… we can but hope!
