Sample lyrics:
“I’m all over my hearts desire / I feel cold but I’m back in the fire”
“Love is a time machine / Upon a silver screen”
Quote from Noel Gallagher re. ‘Shock Of The Lightning’:
“If The Shock of the Lightning sounds instant and compelling to you, it’s because it was written dead fast. And recorded dead fast. The Shock of the Lightning basically is the demo. And it has retained its energy. And there’s a lot to be said for that, I think. The first time you record something is always the best”
Translates to:
“If the lyrics to The Shock of the Lightning sound really really shit, it’s because like all my lyrics, they were written dead fast. And because we were too busy knocking about with supermodels and stuff, we ended up recording it dead fast. The Shock of the Lightning basically is the demo because we ended up thinking ‘fuck it, that’ll do’. And there’s a lot to be said for that, I think. We’ve lived by that rule for fourteen years now and people are still buying into it.”
Needless to say, the song is a bag of wank. But hey! There are still some Oasis fans out there who think they are relevant, so enjoy the track below. You’ll probably fucking love it!

I’ve always been a bit baffled as to the appeal of Oasis to be honest. They’re one of the main reasons why people wrongly labelling my favourite band (Manic Street Preachers) as britpop drives me insane…
August 15th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Yup, another ‘classic’ from the man who has admitted to not having a clue what Wonderwall is about. But then, as my Dad would say whilst watching glam rockers on TOTP, I bet he’s laughing all the way to the bank.
August 15th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
what the hell is this “relevant” crap people keep saying. 90% of the bands promoted on this website would never be considered “relevant” cause nobody cares about em cause nobody knows who the hell they are.
August 16th, 2008 at 10:21 am
“the song is a bag of wank” this shitty web site says. yet the said shitty web site has to use Oasis to get exposure. this site is obviously run by a bunch of pathetic dick heads who know fuck all about fuck all. love from an Oasis fan
August 16th, 2008 at 10:31 am
no, it was posted because we thoroughly enjoy taking the piss out of meat heads like your fine self.
live foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr mad ferrrr it!
August 17th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
I agree with the oasis fan. I wouldn’t have stumbled across this site if it wasn’t for oasis, so if that link is getting you shit load more hits than personally I wouldnt insult the thing getting you popularity. And wotever u may think of them, there are a lot of these oasis fans out there! If they r so shit they wouldnt have been around for so 15 years and now about to lauch thir 8th album. Oh and not to forgot the guranteed sell out tour which will follow the album. I dont have a problem not liking oasis and I can understand y ppl cnt stand them. But just keep your insults to yourself, unless your create music that is better and more successful I dont think you’ve got a leg to stand on. Yes have an oppinion but be a bit more intelligent with it rather than “their fucking shit!”. That way perhaps id respect it more whether I agree with it or not
August 17th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
B4 some clever shit picks me up on it, I appreciate my spelling nd grammar is terrible in the above post. I am tired and was too lazy to check it before posting
August 18th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
we don’t post articles simply to potentially increase hits. we never have and we never will. we do alright without relying on hugely popular bands like oasis thanks very much.
there are, like you pointed out, lots and lots of people excited about the new release. and if you’d like to actually DEFEND the song then go for it – we’d love to hear your views. whether they sell out a tour and have a triple platinum album with dig out your soul is irrelevant – what we’re talking about hear is the music, and the music streaming above frankly stinks.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
I am not going to defend the song, I would class it as average but compared to a lot of the stuff in the charts at the moment I wouldnt say it stinks, there is far worse around.
August 18th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
in the charts perhaps. but thats not really saying much is it?
August 18th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Welcome to the wonderful world of freedom of expression, something die-hard fans don’t want even to recognise.
I’ve been there quite few times myself…isn’t anyone in this country allowed to think, write, express whatever he/she believes?
It should stay like this, at least until China will conquer UK, which may not be that far in time!
Oasis song is horrible, as any of their song in the last 12 years.
Press will say this is their back to form and the best album since “What’s the story…” until the release of the next.
Noel will follow…insulting some other bands in the meanwhile.
I have already been here too, haven’t you?
ciao
Vale
August 18th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
@ Kevin Linguard
Yes, your spelling and grammar is terrible. Embarrassing even. You’re too lazy to check it and you’re too lazy to look anywhere else for interesting music than a band that have been cranking out the same charmless dross for the last 15 years. That’s the real reason why Oasis are still successful, because some people are as lazy as they are.
August 18th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Didn’t know Oasis was still around.
I have to go with de Oasis fans (never tought I would say that) on this one.
Calling this song “bag of wank” is simply ridiculous. You just have to listen to it. It’s a great song. Nothin spectacular, but a great rock’n roll song.
Oasis fans who say everything the Gallagher brothers release is the best ever written are as ridiculous as the critics who can’t recognize that they can still write some proper good music after their first two album.
I’ve come to the conclusion that those critics would slag them off if they could, but those albums are so objectively good that it would unveil that the only reason they slag Oasis off is because the stupid and unjustified arrogance of the Gallagher brothers, but not their music.
Once again, the song is great, just listen to it.
August 18th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
I wouldn’t say I am lazy at all, unlike the vast majority of people I had to work the Sunday I wrote that reply and was literally heading to bed. If people have suggestions of music to listen to I will because at the moment there is little out there in the UK press which I find exhilerating. And guessing you name is ShitPrick for a reason!
August 19th, 2008 at 8:08 am
To break up the very black and white argument that’s been going on so far, I want to say that I love Oasis but still found this review pretty hilarious. Just the fact that Noel starts his quote with “If The Shock of the Lightning sounds instant and compelling to you” is begging for wank-related comments.
The review is no more biased than what Noel has said himself, so why anyone takes either comment so seriously confuses the hell out of me.
As for my personal take on the song, I agree they’re not the best lyrics ever written, but then I don’t think they’re trying to be. The instrumental side of things is great, the vocal melody is solid and the whole thing really does have a good, energetic rock feel. It’s hardly my favourite ever Oasis track, but it does bring with it a lot of energy, and a lot of promise for the new album.
In response to one of the first comments about Noel “having no clue what wonderwall is about” – that’s not entirely true. He’s mentioned the meaning in plenty of interviews, you can read it up on wiki if you’re keen – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonderwall_(song) . On a similar note, a lot of Oasis songs do have pretty meaningful lyrics – I’m not sure how people could argue against it the way they do. If you’re going to bag Oasis as having poor lyrics because of one song that they wrote quickly, for fun, I’d love to hear what kind of bands you listen to.
Finally, in response to whoever started talking about laziness… I’d really like to come up with a solid argument as a retaliation, but seeing as your “argument” is more or less a completely unfounded, meaningless jab that barely even makes as much sense as the song lyrics we’re talking about here, I have no choice but to respond with an equally meaningless quip. You suck.
August 19th, 2008 at 10:38 am
Things I have learned from this post.
1. Oasis fans google Oasis to make sure that they’re not getting any bad reviews.
2. Oasis fans consider anything below the radar of top-10 pop dross to be insignificant and inferior to Oasis.
3. Websites that cover such inferior musical acts (who can only aspire to the ’success’ of Oasis) are simply desperate for the hits that only Oasis can generate and desperately want people with a musical taste spanning four britpop bands and the Eagles to bookmark the site so that they can comment on each article saying ‘ive neva heard of these weirdos’
4. Thinking Oasis are bad is objectively wrong. They are the greatest musical talent Britain has produced since Elgar. Anyone who thinks otherwise is not only stupid, but possesses no knowledge of music.
Fascinating.
August 19th, 2008 at 10:48 am
im just enjoying sitting back and watching the carnage.
August 19th, 2008 at 10:54 am
Why do Gaylords feel the need to slag off Oasis, without even giving it a chance.
This song is brilliant, it gets better with each listen….its catchy as hell without being obvious and the drums, say no more, pounding.
And why slag off the perfectly good lyrics?….oh it mentions magical and mystery….well I never, get over yourselves, not sure the beatles have a monopoly on those words.
From a Chartered Professional, who is also apparently a meathead lol :-D
August 19th, 2008 at 11:20 am
they’ve been referncing the beatles for the past 14 years mate – i dont think it’s any coincidence “magical and mystery” pop up in the same line. it’s just lazy song writing imo
August 19th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Rob here’s a couple of things you should think about.
1. They listened to the song and thought it was shit. Not everyone thinks Oasis are genius. In fact a lot of people don’t even think that they’re very good. I’ve got to say they’re probably right.
2. Most people who aren’t meatheads don’t boast about their jobs or use the term ‘Gaylord’.
P.S. Not to be a dick but your analysis probably says a lot more about why you like Oasis than you’d like it to.
August 19th, 2008 at 11:41 am
Sorryust lowering myself to the sites level…..as for the referencing of the beatles, so what, all music has influences, acts like Jay Z and Kanye West etc use direct samples, using sometimes fairly recent music…why not reference one of the most influential acts of all time?
I think music snobbery is everywhere, I have no axe to grind with someone who genuinely having listened to something doesn’t like it, but Oasis have this every release.
Ps. I think anyone who can honestly listen to Oasis’ back catalogue and say they are ‘not very good’ should give up on rock music its not for them.

Damn it to hell, the most frustrating thing about this thread is that the people defending Oasis are doing such a terribly shit job at it.
At the very least the anti-Oasis camp has gained some sort of validity with Peter’s comments, though I still find a few to be hypocritical; in particular you poke fun at the way people say Oasis being good is a fact, yet a second later you turn around and say, as a fact, “a lot of people don’t even think that they’re very good. I’ve got to say they’re probably right.”
You can’t really deny that such a comment is equally as baseless to the pro-Oasis argument. The only thing anyone can reasonably put forward is their own opinion, and it’s absurd to try and look at people with a lack of respect – to call them unknowledgable, etc. – simply because they don’t agree with your views; which is all both sides have been doing with this.
If Oasis or any other band doesn’t appeal to you then that’s perfectly fine; it doesn’t mean you have to make fun of people who like them – and it doesn’t give you any more right to state that they’re shit over the people who state that they’re good. It works the same in reverse – just because you’re pro-Oasis doesn’t mean you have to bag every single person who isn’t. It’s opinion, people! If you like, you’re more than welcome to explain why you feel the way you do, but the second you start telling people that opinion is fact is the second a quality discussion becomes a pointless battle that can never be won.
I enjoy Oasis at any rate, and as long as people don’t try and act like I’m an idiot for doing so, I’m happy.
August 19th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
As a side note, and this is mainly directed at the anti-Oasis camp, you have to realise that using stereotypes as an argument is… remarkably lame…
I know as many brilliantly intelligent people who enjoy manufactured emo-punk, pop and and hip-hop music as I do ridiculously unintelligent people who like “respectable acts” (as far as music snobs are concerned).
I find more often that not that the ones who are the biggest snobs are the less-intelligent, and the smarter people are more often happy to admit that the music they listen to might not be deep, but it sounds good to them… And in the end, that’s what matters right?
That’s to say nothing of my opinion of Oasis (personally I think they’re very talented at what they do), I’m just speaking in general.
August 19th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
I just love the fact someone used the insult “Gaylord”, I’ve not heard that since the days of Tucker Jenkins.
Hadyn, you’ve made some really good points here, your comments are interesting and stimulate debate, which is what this is all about after all.
August 19th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
FWIW: Re: Meaning of Wonderwall. I was going on what Noel admitted on Parkinson during an interview a few months (?) ago. I’m aware of the film/Harrison soundtrack, and my low opinion of their lyrics means that I am still of the opinion that it is only referenced because NG would have heard of it too as a Beatles fan and it happens to rhyme with ‘all’.
August 19th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
It seems lists are the new kool way to write so here goes:
1. I am quite impressed how far this discussion has gone since my last post
2. Hadyn has hit the nail on the head. I’m a fan of Oasis and the thing that annoyed me about this article is the way it kind of looks down on people who like Oasis. As if we are stupid and as some1 stated above, lazy for liking Oasis. Don’t be so narrow minded.
3. I can appreciate why people do hate Oasis and I dont think for a second every1 should like them. Just don’t talk down and call me an idiot for doing so. And dont ever say hate Oasis cos they r shit, that mite be your oppinion but its nothing you can factually prove so back off and enjoy listening to wot u listen to.
4. When i referred to the track being better than anything in the charts I just used it as a generalisation or an example to merely prove its much better than most out there. (yet again tho only my oppinion)
August 19th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Perhaps this is stating the obvious given the evident “high” levels of intellect displayed in some posts on here, but if you don’t like the music made by Oasis don’t listen to it!
Fair enough you are entitled to an opinion that you don’t personally like it but to brand anybody who dares to differ from your opinion a “meat head” or “too lazy to look anywhere else for interesting music” just makes yourself look ignorant, incredibly arrogant and rather foolish. Why cant you accept that some people like it and enjoy listening to it, that doesn’t make them thick or lazy, it just means they have different taste to you.
It’s a good argument that selling several million albums doesn’t automatically make the album great (just look at Crazy Frog for example), but the fact that millions of people still enjoy some of their earlier work over a decade and a half after it was first released probably does.
Obviously these people have no taste in music and their opinions are not even worth reading when you compare the music they like to much more interesting music (which you don’t actually care to quote the name of). I suspect this is because it is largely unknown, and will probably never be known due to the niche market which it appeals to. But as long as pretentious, stuck up numpties like some users on here can gather round and moan about how they heard this “terrible” music in a club or on a radio I am sure it will only gain in popularity.
As for the people who claim Oasis’s lyrics to be meaningless or stolen from The Beatles, be silent you cretins. Noel is frequently asked what the meaning of the lyrics to certain songs are by people who have probably only listened to the song a few times and don’t particularly care about the meaning. His usual reply is to refuse to analyse on the basis that it means what it means to the listener. Just because a song means one thing to him as it reflected something he was going through at the time it was written, doesn’t mean it has to mean the same to the listener, not everybody wants or needs everything spelled out to them. As for the comparisons to The Beatles and other bands, they openly admit they were heavily influenced by them, get over it. Most bands are influenced by successful bands they grew up listening to either consciously or subconsciously, those who deny it are either liars or probably not very good at all.
Rant over…I’m off to sit in a bus shelter drinking White Lightning now because I like Oasis, which clearly means I am poorly educated and I am, in short, a filthy no good peasant. Ta Ta!
(Apologies if the bulk of my post didn’t fit your stereotype)
August 19th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
to be fair. most oasis fans ive come across in my life HAVE been meat heads. i mean, i was at wembley in 1999 surrounded by them.
to point out this comment though:
“Obviously these people have no taste in music and their opinions are not even worth reading when you compare the music they like to much more interesting music (which you don’t actually care to quote the name of).”
there is no point in us naming names when you are surrounded by bands on this website that will totally inspire you and enrich your life. seriously. just check out the review on the front page for the acorn album for an example.
the trouble is, with this thread – is that people are coming to this post straight from google, reading this argument and coming to the conclusion that we are a bunch of sarcastic indie hipsters. which is simply not the case. well. some of us are sarcastic indie hipsters.
who ever posted this article in the first place needs a damn good kick up the arse…………………….?
August 20th, 2008 at 6:04 am
Personal experience still doesn’t constitute fact; most of the people I know who like Oasis are (contrary to your experience, Rich) really decent people; people that I respect a lot. It doesn’t mean I think every single person who likes Oasis is a great person – most of them might not be…
But then, look at any band, or any concert; there are always “meatheads” in the fan base – that was my point from before… Lazy/unkowledgable/meathead bastards probably love your favourite music, too. Does that mean I should start stereotyping fans of your favourite bands?
(No, would be the correct answer)
August 20th, 2008 at 6:21 am
As a note, though, I do agree with Rich’s stance on not “naming names” – what’s the point? The last thing we want to do is start a musical snob wanking contest, and that’s all you’d achieve. Plus it ignores everything I’ve been trying to say so far – it’d just drive the argument further towards people treating opinions of bands as fact. Which would suck.
August 23rd, 2008 at 4:18 am
Good song, gives me positive feelings towards the new album. There’s a few people slating Oasis here but they’re clearly in the minority so I hope they’re happy in their little world of boring bollocks. The rest of the world is excited about the new release from arguably the best and most talked about band on the planet.
August 23rd, 2008 at 3:37 pm
There is a lot of nonsense being talked on here. The new Oasis single is great, its Oasis doing what they’re great at, hard, pounding and exciting Rock n Roll and nobody does it better. There is a lot of snobbery on here and it is ridiculous. If you want prog rock with a load of complicated structures, go and listen to Mars Volta (nothing wrong with them but thats what they do), if you want exciting and direct Rock n Roll, listen to Oasis or Jet or The Strokes etc…
The comments that Oasis haven’t made a decent record since 1996 make me laugh, “Be Here Now” was overproduced, overlong and a major disappointment but “Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants” is VERY underrated and is an album where Oasis did experiment but lacks a few genuinely great songs. I think “Heathen Chemistry” is wildly uneven but “Don’t Believe The Truth” is 2nd only to “Definitely Maybe” as their best album.
There are a lot of people out there who wont rate a band if they don’t make “Groundbreaking” music. Wake up and realise that there are very few groundbreaking bands out there anymore. Rock music is very hard to take forward these days if you want to keep melody intact. People think Radiohead are groundbreaking but they’re not, they take influences from other bands. “OK Computer” was a great album but it wasn’t a step forward it was a step sideways. I think the last band to take rock FORWARD weren’t even a rock band and that was The Prodigy. People make out Muse are groundbreaking, no they’re not, they’re a modern day Queen. I love Interpol (highbrow people call them “Art Rock”) but they’re a modern take on Joy Division.
Radiohead fans are the best, they say Oasis haven’t made a great album since 1995 but Radiohead haven’t made a consistently great album since 1997. They had an average start with “Pablo Honey” but then produced two all time great albums with “The Bends” and “OK Computer” and then promptly disappeared up their own arses. This is not to say that they haven’t produced any good music since then, they have and some of it has been great but very inconsistent due to the fact that every album has to have a “Concept” and they have to show how clever they are all the time, usually at the sake of melody. Also Radiohead give the worst interviews ever, they are SO boring. Loads of erms and pauses and the “Concept” of this song was to sound like a train running at a 150 mph etc, blah, blah, blah. Manic Street Preachers are very blind to THEIR bands shortcomings. Their first 2 albums are average but “The Holy Bible” and “Everything Must Go” are in my top 20-30 albums of all time. “This is My Truth” was one paced and average, “Know Your Enemy” was brave and underrated but lacked consistency, forget “Lifeblood” but “Save The Tigers” was a return to decent form but listen to Manics die hards and they never put a foot wrong and yet they lay into Oasis all the time. Also if Oasis fans are to be judged by the few idiots that follow them and get termed “Meatheads” am I to do the same with the few idiotic Manics fans that cut themselves as being all miserable bastards? Then we have the other Manics fans who went to university and come from privileged backgrounds and were dressing down and trying to talk and act like something they’re not, are all Manics fans to be grouped together? All bands have a wide selection of people who follow them, get over it.
Oasis never cheat their fans, they provide them with what they want and I think they’re over their sticky period, the new members have settled in well and contribute songs and good musicianship. I have a wide taste in music and love rock, r n b, rap, classical, folk, reggae and dance. There is too much variety out there not to enjoy at least a little of all of it. Oasis do write good lyrics as well but they have wrote some poor ones as well but haven’t all bands? Bob Dylan is still the greatest lyric writer of all time and I love his music and Noel Gallagher is no Bob Dylan but he is not Marc Bolan either! I love Interpol, Radiohead, Manic Street Preachers, Jet, Bloc Party, The Killers and yes Oasis and they are no less relevant than those other bands I have mentioned. They maybe more direct than some but sometimes thats a blessed relief after listening to some band that thinks they are so clever and is trying to force themselves to sound important. Oasis are important to millions of people the whole world over because they are who they are. I can understand if you don’t like them as they are not to everyones taste but you have to admit that they’re real and seem to have the same attitude and sense of fun they had in 1994. They earn a load of money and travel the world doing what they do and they enjoy it, so they should after the start in life they had, yet other bands who came from a more privileged background are so miserable doing what they do and don’t they show it?
August 25th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
So basically to paraphrase your post (for those who are too sane to be bothered reading it all), you think everyone is a snob and that your own opinion, summed up by a huge rant that lacks any sort of paragraph structure, is clearly more valid than what anyone else could possibly ever think? Even if they HAD paragraphs!?
August 27th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
My first listen to Oasis was there signiture hit Wonderwall. I didn’t like it then, and still don’t. But, I have evolved into a great fan, mainly because of the back alley licks and lyrics they deliver. I’m a huge fan of Be Here Now (surprisingly not the rabid fan’s favourite)and the Hindu Times album is also a great product.
And that’s what they do! They deliver product. Sometimes it’s good, occasionally great, and sometimes not (the last album was difficult to listen to). Like many posters here I stumbled onto this site looking for feed back on the latest single. What I found was a track that, on first listen, seems OK. But, like most of Oasis stuff, I need to listen to the tracks a few times and it does grow on me.
Radiohead, on the other hand, I’ve listened to over and over and still don’t get it. Same with Coldplay, whose songs all sound exactly the same to me.
August 28th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
@ShitPrick
I like that you are critiquing Kevin’s grammar, while there is a mistake in your own post.
No but seriously, Oasis ARE great. Oasis ARE a really sweet band.
August 30th, 2008 at 7:44 am
As a note for any Oasis fans still reading this, the new Oasis song that was remixed by Chemical Brothers – Falling Down – is available in the un-remixed original Oasis form on iTunes. In my opinion, it’s the best song they’ve released in a very long time… and I really like a lot of their recent stuff, so that’s saying something.
I just thought I’d let people know.
September 2nd, 2008 at 4:11 pm
The length of this blog just shows how relevant oasis are. For those people who say they have not released a good album in 12 years simply have not listened to the albums!
The main reason people call oasis fans meatheads is because what they dont understand is that we listen to them for the music not the fashion and just because were not that bothered about some 7 inch wank bloc party remix were all massive hooligans.
oasis are good if they were not they would not still sell millions of records simple, if the last album was rubbish why did it sell 5 million records and make oasis more popular in the states than ever?
im not judging anyones taste in music, but in my opinion and the other 100 million people who have bought oasis records they are a good band so why write a stupid review like the one above if your not really interested, leave it to someone who is!
September 4th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Unfortunately theres always such hype when a new Oasis single is been released it can be quite hard to sit back and listen to it objectivly.I’m suprised that they’re still as popular as they are as I’m sure Noel Gallager is.I think he’s been blagging it for years now_no dissing here.I’m sure he would agree.I still have time for Oasis not because they’re relevent..because they’re not-or because they’re going to change the World(I think we all gave up on that idea a long time ago,or that they might even have another classic album in them. Its because they still come up with the occasional decent tune once in a while. Is the new single any good?I think its quite a good psychadelic punky rock tune…with shite lyrics.I would pay money to listen to it and it’s leaving me very curious to how the new album is going to sound…..
September 6th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Hadyn Lander? I never said anybody is a snob, where did I say that? I wasn’t aware that I was ranting, I was pretty chilled at the time that I typed it, so chilled I have only looked back at the site now in fact. Paragraphs? I never really thought to have paragraphs, it is a music opinion website. I’m not typing a report in work or doing homework, it didn’t seem relevant to be honest….
There you go a paragraph….
Not bad for a meathead…
I’m getting good at this….
If you read my post you would see that i was giving an unbiased opinion on an important band and had a little dig at certain sections of Manics and Radiohead fans but I am a fan of them myself, even owning all their albums. I am a Birmingham City fan but will have a go at a certain minority of fans. Thats an unbiased opinion, being able to see something that you feel passionate about for what it is. I just pointed out what Oasis mean to a lot of people while at the same time pointing out that Oasis are not the most forward thinking band in the world, Noel Gallagher is no Bob Dylan. I had a little dig at Radiohead and Manics fans because they are notorious for holding their bands up as something they’re not. You need to grow up instead of thinking you’re intellectually superior to everyone, even thinking you can point out peoples grammatical mistakes because you’re so perfect. S*it, time for a new paragraph……(So, so important, I mean Mr Hadyn might fail me on my exam…)
If you don’t agree with my opinion then thats fine but don’t start trying to get personal as it just makes you look bad.
September 6th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Oh, come on. You say you’re not biased, yet you say as fact things like;
“The new Oasis single is great”
““Be Here Now” was overproduced, overlong and a major disappointment but “Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants” is VERY underrated”
“Radiohead haven’t made a consistently great album since 1997″
My whole point with everything I’ve said in this entire thread is that all of this – everything anyone says here – is nothing more than opinion, and when you start arguing against others’ opinions with your own, you’re only starting a fight that can’t be won; the simple truth is that there is no right or wrong. People are free to have their own views, but you can’t argue this stuff as if it’s fact, which is what you did.
The paragraph comment was just me taking the piss for the most part, but honestly, paragraphs exist for a reason; it makes it much easier to read large blocks of text, etc, and makes it easier to understand points.
I didn’t mean to offend, I’s an oasis fan myself… I just get annoyed when people are arguing impossibly.

Hadyn, how is that biased?! Read the comments you have highlighted. I have slated “Be Here Now” which proves I’m not one of those fans of a band who thinks that everything they’ve done is great and they can’t do any wrong. I also think “Heathen Chemistry” is an average album but I love the first two and the last one. I have given a rational and unbiased opinion on Oasis there. They are a great band but they have released less than masterful material.
I said Radiohead haven’t released a great album since 1997 but I also pointed out that they have released good albums since and that some of that material has been great. I also pointed out that “The Bends” and “OK Computer” are two of my all time favorite albums. I think if they had pooled togther the best material from “Kid A” and “Amnesiac” they would have had a great album. That is an unbiased fan of the bands opinion, once again, Radiohead are great but they have released less than masterful material.
I gave my honest and UNBIASED OPINION on Oasis, The Manics and Radiohead as a fan of all three bands. I just highlighted The Manics & Radiohead because certain other fans of them think they are perfect and lay into other bands such as Oasis because they’re not interested in politics or releasing albums for free. I think you need to re-read my comments and I’m sure then you will release that I was just pointing out what Oasis mean to people and that even though they have their faults so do other peoples favorite bands.
Where in what I’ve said is there an impossible comment?

Hadyn, you said you were mostly taking the piss with the paragraph comment, then why mention it twice in four lines? Petty and silly…..

Fair enough, what I said was probably a bit over the top. Forgive me, and go to iTunes to buy the latest Oasis track – Falling Down.
That one rocks. (fact)

Hadyn, nice one. It takes a man to admit they are wrong. All forgotten, I think we just got our wires crossed. I have heard “Falling Down” and it’s a great track, has a real groove to it and is far superior to “The Shock Of The Lightning” which is a great lead off single but is more Oasis by numbers. I love The Chemical Brothers remix too, in fact I’m unsure of which one I like best to be honest.
I’m really looking forward to buying “The Kings Of Leon” album. The lead off single is great, even if the title seems a little “Spinal Tap”!
