I don't believe those comments. That man gives 100% in all of his performances! He's a ledgend. Was talking to him a while back. He's so modest and genuine. Few people are like that- so it hurts to hear those comments. I know he simply wouldn't cheat on her. Listen to the emotion in his songs. The love is so strong- thats proof enough.

Anyway why are people commenting who haven't heard him sing/know of him? Who are you to judge?

What is this all about? How can personal, snide innuendos (about someone who isn't in a position to answer them) be in any way relevant to a performance? I really loved the recent solo performances by Duke, in smaller venues, when he introduced some new material and used vintage films, candle light etc. to give a new slant to his older material, so his loyal fans wouldn't be bored with the same old thing. When he is playing support in larger venues I think he does play more material from Songs from the Deep Forest because he is introducing his work to an audience who are mostly not familiar with it. Obviously, from all the comments, different people are going to respond to different things. But how good is it that he is prepared to take a risk and experiment, rather than just churning out the same old thing all the time? Unfortunately, I didn't see the Somerset House set, but I have never been to a gig where DS hasn't given 100% in his performance (which isn't easy when half the crowd are talking rather than listening).

I have been to two headline Duke gigs. No other artist is more captivating.I suppose taste comes in to it, however what surely can't be argued is his song writing ability and performance leaves most other more 'instant' stars standing.

Duke Special? Erm, not very "special" at all. Another completely rubbish act that simply fails to inspire. When will people begin to realise that so much of the music being foisted upon us today is simply inferior? When will people stop acclaiming mediocrity and start putting pressure on artists to deliver quality for a change? Duffy not too bad, at least the girl can sing.

Yup, Chip Bailey fan here too. I did enjoy this Duke Special lineup at Bush Hall - largely 'in the round', but the first and best was a full band at ULU. That also featured one of the most beautiful duets I've ever heard with a guest female I've never been able to identify.
Maybe Duffy & band have fallen into a routine. If anything they just seemed a bit over rehearsed. Perhaps they should slip in a few covers until they get more of thier own material just to mix things up a bit and make it more interesting for themselves too. I was going to add that as an edit today but Rich published too soon :-)

Ahem... there's no 'the!' And they're genuinly not...recently he seems to have been concentrating on the theatrics of the show (messing about with projections, large ornamental drums...) instead of the songs. You haven't lived until you've seen Chip Bailey play the cheesegrater/whisk!

I agree...I've seen Duke Special twice in the last few months and he's been distinctly off colour. The only conclusion that I've come to is that he's simply better with a full band or perhaps just bored of doing stuff from Songs From The Deep Forest. Also that Elbow show was bloody brilliant... And I don't think an iron would've fixed Duffy's dress problems...
