Charlottefield return this week with the release of their loud, brash and, quite frankly marvellous, album What Are Friends For? So, what better time to catch up with lead ‘Field man Thomas House to find out the answers to those all important questions.

1. Describe your sound in 3 words.
Quite good actually.
2. What was the first record you ever bought? And where did you buy it?
Do I have to tell the truth? It was ‘Pump up the Jam’ by Technotronic, at Our Price in Hastings.
3. What’s the best cure for a hangover?
A bloody mary, then, later, sex.
4. What’s on your rider?
Five hot meals (one vegetarian) and some beer.
5. How do you get ready for a live show?
Tune my guitar, make sure I got water and beer, take my shoes off and empty my pockets (into my shoes).
6. What’s your favourite song to play live?
At the moment it’s ‘Threes’ and if the sound’s good enough ‘Can’t stand up’.
7. What’s your guilty pleasure?
I’ve got over guilt. It’s a waste of time.
8. Who would win in a fight, a stoat or a goat and why?
Well I imagine a stoat to have more wily tricks up its sleeve. I think a goat would be too honest to fight dirty enough.
9. What was the last album you bought?
I think it was The philosophy of living fire by Alasehir, or that New Orleans funk compilation on Soul Jazz.
10. If you could rid the world of one song - what would it be?
There’s plenty of songs I really hate but I just make sure iIdon’t hear them. Oh wait. ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’. Will that do?
11. Who would play you in a film based upon your life?
Me. I was born for the part.
12. Dead or alive. What 5 acts would you have play with you at a festival?
David Crosby circa his first solo LP; Alice Coltrane; Picore; Earth; Jandek.
13. If push comes to shove, what is your all-time favourite album?
Beck Mellow Gold, Talk Talk Laughing Stock, Pavement Crooked rain Crooked rain… that’s as narrow as I can get it i’m afraid.
14. What’s your most memorable on the road story?
When Chris hit a block of concrete and nearly stacked it and we had to wait hours for the pick-up.
15. If your life flashed before your eyes, what would be the highlights?
The Charlottefield stuff and some stuff to do with girls.
16. What’s the best piece of advice someone has ever given you and did you take notice?
Luke Woodgate - “Things aren’t as bad as you think” - regrettably it took a while to sink in.
17. If you had to leave a body part to science, what would it be?
They can have the lot. I won’t be needing it.
18. What’s the best book you’ve read and film you’ve seen in the last 6 months?
Haven’t done much of either so: “Shakey” by Jimmy McDonough, and the Transformers film.
19. What three things could you not live without?
Oxygen, sustenance, music.
20. Tell us a fact about yourself we probably don’t already know.
I could’ve been a contender, Charlie.
