Another week and another batch of singles / downloads to spend your well earned readies on… Remember, The Line of Best Fit listens to these so you don’t have to.

Oooo, more metal this week though not quite as mental as Mastodon. We’ve got the Deftones instead with another single from the, quite frankly awesome, album Saturday Night Wrist. However, Mein is one of the weakest tracks from it, it’s a very bland effort, nothing stands out and there’s a lack of anything that makes this stand out from the crowd. It smacks of exploiting the fans. Save your money and just buy the album instead.

Remember those Levis twisted jeans adverts from a few years ago? Well, the band behind the music for those adverts Pepe Deluxe are back with a new single entitled Pussy Cat Rock. The Finnish dance duo who on previous releases relied heavily on samples and drum loops have hit back refreshed and reinvigorated for their third album Spare Time Machine leading it off with this quite frankly bonkers track. “You play with girls / you play with boys / With yourself, you play with toys” repeated over raucous backdrop of 60’s psychedelia, all pounding drums and distorted hammond organ. This will go down a storm at indie discos up and down the nation for sure, but as for a sign of things to come, it all seems a little bit gimmicky.

Little Death or as the french would say “la petite mort”, is not only a commonly known term to describe a post-orgasmic fainting spell (you learn something every day) but also a hotly tipped 4-piece hailing from London -via Canada, Bermuda, California and Texas. The cross transatlantic troupe release their debut single, double A side Countdown and Tough Lover on 16th April. Both tracks here prove the band has a genuine knack of writing a decent pop song, the melodies are faultless yet underneath it all the music sneers and snarls, twists and turns. Its a thrilling ride that leaves you wanting more. Orgasmic? Lets wait till the album shall we?

Hoping to follow in the footsteps of Jamie T and Just Jack we have Shameless. Though his style is more firmly rooted in hiphop than Jamie and Jack, Shameless is not afraid to wear his childhood influences on his sleeve, citing Nirvana, The Clash and The Specials as important figures in his musical upbringing. With a guest appearence from foul mouthed fellow East London upstart Plan B, debut single No Hats, No Trainers is a call to arms to get out and do something with your life. Well, I wouldnt argue with these two shady geezers if I were you, just in case you get “brappped” or whatever it is these urban fellows are calling it these days. So all I’ll say is if you like your hip hop raw, upbeat and very british sounding. Then this is for you, I for one arent “down with the kids” enough to get it.

Single of the week this week goes to the mighty Longcut. I’ve been a fan of these guys for a long time and it looks like they’re getting better and better. Idiot Check is a corker of a single, chiming guitars and processed drums all click around the oddly distant vocals, it’s like if New Order had been influenced by Mogwai. The fact that it’s backed by an excellent cover of You’ve Got The Love is only an added bonus, taking the heart and soul of a dance classic and twisting it into something altogether different. The remixes are cack though.

A close runner up this week is the splendid second offering from Havana Guns. This countries answer to The Ravonettes? Quite possibly. A melting pot of Jesus And Mary Chain, Debbie Harry and Phil Spector all blended together create N.Y.C.S. This is delightful, stylish indie pop with a huge dollop of sex appeal. A band to watch.
